04.01.20	Heated the canopy again to make it closer to the rear left fuselage skin.  It worked, but this time, I badly damaged the canopy shape :(.  I guess I'll have to live with it now.  I also arranged the rear right outside flashing so it is closer to the fuselage.	2.00
03.08.05	Removed outside flashings, put silicone sealant and put it back in place.  Riveted. Fixed rear portion of flashing to canopy. Replaced the hinge bolts (fixed rivet problem on longeron -- conflict with hinge attach bolt) at the same time.	3.50

03.07.17	Finished front of outside fairing to get a better seal from the side cover.  The outside flashing look nicer now.  Yesterday I also enlarged the inside slot for the left side latch.  I then readusted the cable tension and the canopy is now easier to open.	2.00

03.07.07	Disassembled left outside flashing and corrected the friction problem with the opening mechanism.  I enlarged the hole of the inside handle because it was mis-aligned with the canopy in place.  Outside of that, I've been mostly un-productive.  Riveted inside flashing on both sides and also riveted the arm rest cover.	3.00
03.07.06	Installed the canopy.  There was a conflict between the latch levers and the side screws.  I shortened the screws and it became OK.  There was also a conflict with the key lock and the same solution was applied. I also had to remove one rivet on top (despites the tests and care I took before).  It seems that there is a friction in the opening system.	5.00
03.07.04	Bought new springs that are smaller than the last ones I tried.  These ones, that are 3/16" by 1-5/8 and bought at Canadian Tire will do fine.  I also purchased a new bicycle brake cable because I noticed a defect in one of those that I had.  Enlarged the holes in the canopy, cut the bottom sides to clear the bottom front screws and the canopy lock system.  Sanded all the edges of the canopy.  Oh deburred and sanded all holes as well.	4.00
03.07.03	Went shopping and bought a new tap and a new lock and some other stuff. Installed the canopy locking device, dimpled the holes for the canopy in the outside flashing.  Installed nutplates on the inside angles.  Disassembled everything, cleaned deburred, primed and painted the parts.  Re-installed the tube frames and the cable that runs through the front tube.  Installed nutplates for the forward side top skins, checked how the GPS antenna will be installed, vacuumed the plane.	10.50
03.07.02	I definitively had a problem with the latch lever interfering with the top flange and the swivel interfering with the canopy screw.  I cut the lever and drilled a new hole at a lower position for the swivel (on both sides).  Installed the locking system as per the XL canopy plans.  Drilled two additional holes for holding the canopy.  Corrected the shape of the canopy bubble.  And what else?	7.50
03.07.01	Installed left side canopy arm cover.  Replaced handle on right side because holes did'nt match anymore (due to the difficulty I had to drill one of the holes in the 4130).  Curved and drill the inside angle with the inside flashing.  Clecoed rear end of inside angle to the rear tube and bent the flashing around the tube.  I now have a problem with the canopy latch system.  The lever is too high and cannot be activated because it pushes against the inside angle.  I will have to leave one of the rivet hole empty on each side because of interference.  I may also have an interference problem between a screw and the cable swivel on each side.	7.50

03.06.27	Found the canopy cables.  Machined the inside handle.  Bent the side covers. Spoke with Zenair about the gas springs (they told me to buy stronger ones and they also told me I don't need the front flashing).  Checked which springs I need and ordered 70 lb springs from McMaster.	6.00
03.06.26	Looked at how I'll make the side covers and seals.  Tried to form a piece of acrylic with a heat gun.  Worked well, but Todd does not approve that I correct my canopy problem using this method.  He says that this will put stresses in the canopy and make it brittle.  I'll check with somebody I know who is an expert in plastics.  Made a dimple die for the 6-32 screws.  Shortened  a gas spring to see how it would fit (made 1-3/8" shorter).  It would fit nice, but the angle of work is really not optimal.  A strong force would be needed to hold the canopy and that force would be exerted half forward (instead of up).  I'll buy shorter springs and redo the bottom brackets.  Oh!  I forgot, I re-installed the canopy at beginning of the day and made some correction to left inside flashing.	6.00
03.06.25	Clecoed front tube, ground some of the rear canopy off to clear the top skin.  Installed inside flashings and angles.  Drilled outside flashing to canopy to inside angle together.  Removed bubble.	7.00
03.06.24	Clecoed canopy to rear tube frame (pitch 100).  We spent quite a bit of time looking at how it fits.  There is a large cleareance on the rear left side (also on right, although less severe).  We also noticed that when we open the canopy, the front end will go against the cowling.  It appears that the 67 degree opening angle is not adequate and I may have to get the gas springs modified to make them shorter.  Tomorrow, we'll grind the rear end of the canpopy, readjust the height and then, install the front tube.	1.25
03.06.24	My father in law helped me to work on the canopy tube frames.  We cut and formed the two tubes to fit the canopy bubble.  There may be small imperfections, but we'll look at this later in the fitting.	7.00
